Sailplane Autotow Hitch Adapter
Our specialized glider towing hitch is designed to “fail open” unlike traditional towing systems. Used to tow gliders to altitude on a runway using an automobile, this innovative system allows the vehicle driver to release the rope independently, eliminating the need for an additional observer and preventing potential miscommunication with the launch crew.
The Autotow Hitch adapter connects to a standard 2” receiver and 7-pin trailer wiring receptacle. The hook is activated when the lights are switched on in the tow vehicle, and will stay closed magnetically when connected to a Schweitzer or TOST ring. The system has integrated bearings that allow the hook to be oriented at any azimuth (crab) or altitude angle during the glider launch. Max weaklink strength is “Black” on the TOST system, or 1000 daN (2250 lbs).
